  1. Region is the area not a specific place. Your question wasnt really clear

  2. A region is an area......not an exact location or anything!......

For example say.....someone tells you to go to the south region of the United States.....this includes Arkansas....Lousiana....Tennessee...Miss...

  3. There are 3 types of Regions; formal, functional & vernacular.

    1. Formal - defined by administrative/governmental bodies

Ex:  USA  (govt/country)   Ex. Rocky Mountains (regional boundaries that don't change)

    2. Functional - defined by a function.   When the function ends, the region ends.

Ex:  American Airlines service route (region covered by flights)

If American Airline goes out of business, it's flight region no longer exists.

    3.  Vernacular - defined by people's perception.

Ex:  Middle East       Bible Belt      the Amish Community

What are your thoughts about them?  In other words, how do you perceive them?

Below are some links for sites that will give you more information.

Thanks for an interesting question and best of luck to you!  : )
