Question:

Problem with HD and Non-HD channels doing a constant flip flop of screen format!?

My TV set up has an option to set the 16:9 ratio to AUTO or ON. When in AUTO the HD channels are okay, but the Non-HD channels keep flip flopping up to a dozen times a minute or so. It goes from HD format size to full screen then back and forth. We set the Option to "ON" and then I get a forced 16:9 ration on all channels. However, if I Power OFF and ON, the option resets to AUTO and I have to use the TV Remote to fix it again. Also, the AUTO is suppose to handle the setting of the right ratio for the type channel we are on (HD or Non-HD). The cable guy insists that he had to hook up the cable box to VIDEO 6 Input and not the normal direct input. There is nothing on that input jack now. We have a DVD and VCR and a DVR that we would like to be able to use too. THe DVR tested out okay! The TV is a Sony HD-Ready and does show great pictures for the HD and Non-HD channels.

Please can anyone provide an answer? My spouse is going nuts because of the confusing problem.

  1. What brand is your television and is it still under warranty?

OK, it's a Sony.  You know they have a 1-800 help line?

    Update:

Their 1-800 number is listed on their website if you don't have it.   www.sony.com  It "should" be listed under "contact us."

Personally, I would try them first.

  2. love_movies2,

In order to help, we'll need to know exactly the models of the components in question and how each is connected. If you can provide that I will try and edit my answer to better assist you.
