I bought this 40" hoping that it would be a quality T.V,

however when i watch sport the picture is poor quality.

Sky films on the other hand are good, but when the T.V zooms in to a stage shot or view where there are a lot of people the picture is blurry. The other problem i am having is when i play a DVD the picture keeps on changing from 4:3 to zoom back to 4:3. It also changes from 16:9 to zoom. It happens with various DVD's so i know it is not the DVD film. Is this normal for this T.V ?? I am now thinking of taking the T.V back and exchanging it for a 37" or 32". Can anyone help me with this problem and suggest a quality 37" or 32 " LCD T.V

Thanks !!!

  1. Watching spots on an LCD TV like the KDL-40V3000 that does not compensate for motion blur and jitter is not a good experience. Even LCD TVs with 120 Hz can not compete with the fast, smooth motion of a plasma TV. Consider the Panasonic TH-42PX80U or TH-42PZ80U as a replacement and you will again enjoy sports. In fact, since all sports channels broadcast in 720p, pick the TH-42PX80U for a superior sports viewing pleasure and save some money. Broadcasted 720p ALWAYS looks better in native resolution (720p)!

As far as the TV going in & out of 4:3/16:9 aspect ratio; it sounds like a failure of the TV and a GREAT reason to trade that SONY in for a Panasonic!

Additional Details: With all due respect, the following answer could not be more wrong. The KDL-40V3000 has one of the better picture qualities other than when watching sports or fast moving objects.

1080p plasma TVs can be more than a $1,000.00 cheaper than the inflated prices Sony charges for their exalted XBRs at an equivalent screen size (i.e. Sony KDL-52XBR4 - $3999.99 (list) versus Panasonic TH-50PZ80U - $2,299.99 (list);Sony KDL-46XBR4 - $3299.99 (list) versus Panasonic TH-46PZ80U - $1,999.99 (list); Sony KDL-40XBR - $2499.99 (list) versus Panasonic TH-42PZ80U - $1499.99 (list)).

Sony MotionFlow does not work at any setting at removing motion blur. It can help, but it can not remove all blur. It does a better job at removal of motion jitter, but then it is easily overwhelmed and creates on-screen artifacts. It's a second rate implementation to correct the deficiency of a second rate technology. Full motion reduces the very BEST (motion compensated) LCD TV to the equivelent of 450 vertical lines of resolution. Plasma TVs rate out at 900 vertical lines under the same conditions.

It has been reported here numerous times that the Sony XBRs can have noisy fans, humming power supplies and cloudy screens. Due to these manufacturing issues, high price, and Motion Flow quirks & failures, I could never recommend the XBR4 or 5 series. Maybe the newer XBR6 series will work better (and they will be offered in a TV less than 40" in size).

  2. The 3000 series does not have the best picture quality.  You will be much better off with an XBR LCD flat panel.  However, you may not be able to find a 120Hz set in that small size.  I disagree with the above post; 120Hz LCD with frame interpolation ("Smooth Motion") is outstanding, and cost less than an equivalent size 1080p plasma.  I would recommend the XBR4 series highly.
