Problem with Static IP at work and Dynamic at home

I have to use a Static IP address at work am I right in thinking that I can configure my home router the same so I don't have to reenter my static ip info every time I come to work?

In addition is it possible to set a range for DHCP so that I use my static ip when I get home and but others guests still will have access when the search for an IP automatically?

Or am I going about this to difficult, is there a way to simply switch back and forth from static to dynamic with out reentering my info every time?

  1. Well, your first question is not very clear but i will try my best to answer.

    1. Basically you can ask your ISP for a static IP address but still this will be different from the address you receive when you are at your office.

    2. Of course there are many software tools which you can use to switch between the two different configurations. One freeware is "Avanquest Connection Manager". I have never tried before as I don't have a Laptop but the blog www.raymond.cc approves it as a good tool for folks like you.

You may download the tool from the following link.

  2. What are you trying to do?

You don't have a static IP at home unless you lease one.  Usually home users don't want to pay the price.

But I read the above 3 times and I have no idea what you are trying to do.  Maybe if you explain the purpose of all this we could come up with a solution for you.
