i have a 55 in pioneer Rear Projection TV and recently i have been getting a "color halo" i don't know if that is the correct term. Basically i get a transparent green semi circle that starts at the bottom of the screen and goes up about 1/3 to 1/2 up the screen. i wanna know how to fix it or what part i need. if i need a part i wanna know about how much it will be and how hard it will be to install.

the model and serail number are:

sd-P5575-K

OH3603196 L

the tv is from 1994.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you.

  1. if the color is otherwise OK, I would guess it is an alignment issue or the bulb is getting old and has a spot on it.

  2. Pioneer?  right?

The covergence amp IC's need to be replaced.  If you're not a technician you will have no chance of repairing this.  Expect to spend between $200 and $350 for repair--depending on where you are and who you get.

********* Your inspection verified what I said**************

Its the convergence amp IC associated with red vertical.  There may be a yoke return resistor opened for the same circuit--if it is  then the Ic is damaged.  I allways replace both Ic's because otherwise its like putting one new tire on a car---the other one will fail soon--and with TV's you'll have to pay the labor a second time.  The IC's should be stk392-110  Repalce them with stk392-180  Should cost (retail) about $35-$40 each
