Question:

Problem with accessing internet via wireless broadband. Please Help!!?

Have checked with eircom (service provider) and belkin but they say everything is fine from their end. Norton 360 is also installed now and working ok. The wireless connection was working fine until recently - any ideas?

Could be a number of things.  First of all, if this is a home connection (such as a wireless router connected to a cable modem or DSL connection), I would try unplugging both the cable modem and router then plug in the cable modem or DSL modem first and letting it reconnect, then reconnect the router and see if this fixes the problem.  If this does not fix it, you may need to go into your router settings and see if you are getting a valid IP to the router.  To check this, refer to your routers manual for access to the admin settings, and see if the WAN/Internet port has a valid IP address (the first two numbers should not begin with 0.0, 10.0, 10.1, 192.168, 169.254, or 255.255).  If this is the case, proceed further.  If not, you need to call your internet provider because the problem is not the router, or your router could be configured incorrectly for your internet providers IP settings.

    If your router has a valid IP, you need to then make sure your PC is connected to your wireless network.  For this, you need to open the wireless network settings in Windows (often an icon at the bottom right of the screen), or if you are on a Macintosh, this is often selected by the Airport icon at the top of the screen.  Make sure that the SSID of your router is selected there, and if not choose that SSID.   If your network was set to be secured via WEP or WPA encryption, you may be prompted for your network key.  Enter your network key and then run an IPConfig from the command prompt (Windows), or check the IP address in System Preferences (Macintosh).  If it begins with 10.0, 10.1, or 192.168 you should be set to go!  If not, you are not connected properly to your wireless network or your router may not be set to distribute DHCP addresses correctly.

    If you are at a business or school wireless network, I would contact the tech support of that establishment for help.
