I'm trying to add files to my Samsung mobile using the Samsung PC Studio 3 (Manage files section). but it keeps giving me UNKNOWN ERRORS, and sometimes they say: "Another PC Studio programme is performing a time-consuming operation. Retry after this operation has finished."

how can i fix that?

  1. OK the first thing to check is that the PC Studio disc (if that's what you installed it from) is compatible with your computers operating system.  You don't say what model of phone it is so I can't tell you if it's compatible or not so I'd suggest that you look at the disc.  If you're using Windows Vista and the disc is not compatible with Windows Vista then you can download the compatible version by going to the link I've given you below for the Global Download Centre.  Once you enter the Global Download Centre enter your phones model number without the SGH- into the blue product field and your computer should be able to guide you through the pages to downloading the software.

Also you might want to check the USB settings on your phone are set correctly.  As you don't specify the model of the phone I am unable to tell you exactly how to do this, but you can usually do this by going into the Settings Menu and select USB Settings or PC Connections.  If it's not found directly under the Settings Menu, try selecting Phone Settings and look for USB Settings or PC Connections under here.  Check the settings are set to PC Studio.  If they're not, then set them to this and try again.

Also, whilst your phone is connected to your computer and PC Studio and with a PC Studio window open, try powering down your phone and powering it back up to see if this works.

If it is compatible, are you using the USB cable that came with the phone?  If not then you need to check that your USB cable is compatible.  You can do this by clicking on the link below that I've given you for the Samsung Mobile website.

Did you install the USB drivers?  If not then you should be able to install these by clicking on the link for the Global Download Centre and follow the instructions I've given you above for finding your phones PC Studio.

Also is the bluetooth switched on or off?  If it's switched on, please disconnect your phone, switch the bluetooth off, reconnect it and try again.

Finally if the above doesn't work then check that the drivers have installed properly.  You need to do this through your Device Manager.  To access this through Windows 98/2000/XP please do the following:

Right click on your My Computer (this can be found on your desktop or under the Start menu)

    Select Properties

    Select the Hardware tab

    Select Device Manager

To access the Device Manager on Windows Vista please go into your Start menu and in the search box type in Device Manager.

Next look for something that says 'Other Devices'.  If you see this and it has a yellow question mark or exclamation mark beside it then it looks like your drivers haven't installed properly.  If this is the case then it will be necessary to uninstall and reinstall PC Studio.  I would recommend that you reinstall it by going to the link below for the Global Download Centre and follow the instructions at the top of this to find your phones software.  However, instead of running the software, save the files to your computers desktop.  Then just before you install the files from your computers desktop switch the antivirus off on your computer and install the files.  Please ensure that once all the files have installed that you re-enable your antivirus.

If 'Other Devices' is not there then it looks like the drivers haven't installed.  Please follow the instructions in the previous paragraph to uninstall and reinstall the software.

If 'Other Devices' is there without the yellow question mark or exclamation mark then it may be that it is necessary to update the driver.  To do this please left click on other devices and then right click on the driver that should appear underneath, click on update and follow the onscreen instructions to update the driver.

If all the above fail, then try using your USB cable in another USB port.  If it still doesn't work then I would suggest that you try installing PC Studio on another computer.  If it works ok on another computer then it may be something in your computer that's stopping the installation in which case I would suggest that you contact your computers manufacturers for further assistance.  If however it doesn't install ok on another computer then it may be something in your phone causing this in which case I would suggest that you contact Samsung for further troubleshooting.
