Problem with blackberry's!!?

I recently bought a second hand Blackberry pearl. I loved it but was gutted to find you need to agree and purchase a "data plan" to access the internet and email's. Is there any way around this issue without purchasing an expensive contract??

you do not need to have a data plan to own a blackberry. although you will have to get it if you will be using the email, internet.

the pay per use is veryyyyyyyyyyyyy expensive on those phones. and you certainly dont want to have a bill that cost more than the data plan.
