Problem with check engine light on a 2005 Mazda 3

Ok, so my car's check engine light came on twice and both times the next day the light was on. I brought the car to a shop and they did a diagnostic test and told me that the computer showed no evidence of the check engine light EVER coming on. The mechanic even proceeded to tell me that it comes on when you start the car and then goes off. I explained that this wasn't what happened the light stayed on well after the car was turned on. Now a similar thing is happening with my airbag light, it came on the other day but was not on all day yesterday but is on again today. The light indicates a system malfunction according to the manual. Can anyone give me any advice on why this is happening the shop wasn't able to help so I'm hoping someone here can. Thanks

FYI: If it matters the car has 61,000 miles on it

  1. ive only seen three cars so far with bad computers and this is what was going on in those as well    but it could just be the shop your taking it to has a cheap code reader and they are unable to pull up freeze frame data from the computer

  2. take it to a mazda dealership they'll find out the problem

  3. They should have an error code reader at the shop that will read from the computer what went wrong.

  4. If the manual says that it could be a system malfunction...I would take it to the dealer immediately. That would probably be the best place to have them look at something like that (If that's not where you took it). And as far as the airbag light..that fluctuates with whether or not you have a passenger with you..just in case you didn't know that. But, if you had nobody in the passenger seat at all then there's definitely something going on with your system because a car that new does not just do that. Hope that was helpful in some way. Good luck!
