Problem with cordless phone....HELP PLZ?

when I turn on my phone to make a call, all I get is a sound (kinda like what you would hear if the other phone in your house was off the hook). I know that is not the case b/c I have checked the only other phone in my house and it is not turned on. Someone said they may have cut off my phone, but if that was the case, I wouldn't be here online asking about this...any help would be appreciated.

Have you checked the batteries? Even if you put it on a charger, eventually cordless phone batteries won't hold a charge. Do you have an old fashioned "corded" phone that you can plug into the phone jack?

Try the other phone (that is turned off) and see if you get a dial tone with it. Depending on your ISP service, you may not get a dial tone if your modem has the line. Try to use the phone with the computer off and if need be, unplug the modem cord from the phone line and test that way. The modem may be the problem.
