i have tried downloading quicktime from several links but each time in the middle of installation, it says "quicktime.cab failed to copy or something" then i have the option to retry (which doesn't work), abort or ignore. None of these options work and it rolls back the installation.

  1. The likely culprit is your cache...first, clean out all temporary internet files and cookies. Then search for all QuickTime files by clicking Start -> Search, then search for *QuickTime* on your local disk (use the leading and trailing asterisks in your search; these are useful "wildcards"). Remove any you find. Search your Registry setting as well by clicking Start -> Run, then in the run dialog type regedit.exe and click "OK" or press enter. Expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER and also expand Software. Scroll down to Apple Computer, Inc. Expand this folder icon (if it exists), then right-click the QuickTime folder (if it exists) and click delete. Having purged your computer of QuickTime, try your installation again - you should get it to install now. Good luck.

  2. You are probably advised by windows to install quicktime, so you will be able to play certain video file types.

When that is the case, don't bother any longer trying to install quicktime.

You do not need it anymoreg when you install Gomplayer.

It is free and does all file types, dvd, cd, audio

go to preferences   -  others    -   select all

    File Types    -  Codec.

One advise, check once in a while whether all still are selected. It can happen, that one or twe file types are not selected any more.
