Question:

Problem with gas cooker?

I have a built in gas cooker, that’s about 10 years old, its been working fine until the last two days, the k***s that turn the gas on and off have suddenly become very stiff and one wont turn at all unless I use a pliers to twist it,

I have no idea what’s wrong with them.

I clean the cooker after every use, k***s included.

Has anyone got any idea what’s wrong with it before I call my landlord out to check it?

  1. This is not a simple problem and may be a dangerous situation. It sounds like the seals have begun to deteriorate. If these control valves are not reconditioned, they may allow gas to leak into the surrounding atmosphere providing potential for an explosion or fire. Call your landlord to get the unit serviced as soon as possible.

  3. The control valves have dry-ed out, at 10 years old it is not worth doing any thing with  it would cost more to fix it than t get a new one fitted , plus it is the land lords problem.

  4. It is a simple problem. The barrel in the gas tap needs a bit of gas grease.A 20 minute job for a gas engineer.
