Question:

Problem with my Sony Trinitron HDTV?

I have a Sony Trinitron HD Monitor Tv, model # # KV-36HS500. I only got it about 4 days ago, and I don't know of any history of problems with it, or have an owners manual. It has been working fine, but this morning when I tried to turn it on, it won't come on. I hear a clicking noise (like it always makes) and then nothing. Just another small clicking noise, and then the standby light blinks. I've tried un plugging and try again, but same thing. Has anyone had this trouble with their tv's? Any ideas as to what's wrong or what I need to do to fix it? I would also like links to an online owner's manual if you know of any. Thanks!

  1. A very common problem with this model. Check to see if there is B+ on the collector of the horizontal output transitor. If there is, then IC 8002 (MC3001D) is probably bad. If the B+ is gone, then there is probably something serious involving the high voltage circuit. As a last resort replace the D board (A-1300-319-A) lists for 200 dollars. You can find an owners manual at this link: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-d...

  2. You may have suffered a power surge. Do you have your TV plugged into a surge protector? If it were a fuse I'd suspect you would have no power at all.

Are you sure the "clicking noise" is NOT electrical sparks inside the unit?

Is there a hatch on the back containing a "reset" button?
