On my TV the piece where you would connect the cable line to broke off completely. I can only use my TV now for movies, because I can still plug in the AV wires.. There is a place to use coalfax (?) wires.. but I haven't heard of a converter that would work for me..do anyone have any ideas for me??? Or do I just need to buy a new TV???

  1. you can buy or use a vcr to now control your tv tuner. you can run cable from the wall to the vcr, then use your rca cables (yellow for video, red and white for audio) to go out from the vcr to the tv. this will do the trick. If you need you tv to handle more than one device through only one set of rca jacks, you can get an rca switcher. they can handle up to 4 devices...ie, video game, dvd, vcr...)  hope that helps

  2. Be careful shopping for a new TV... most of the ones sold today don't come with tuners any more (i.e. the coaxial "cable" you speak of).

The simplest solution is to ask your cable provider for a "set-top box"... they usually provide one at no charge.  Then, you can plug the cable into that box and use the RCA/composite connectors (red/white/yellow) to feed the signal to your TV.

If you don't have cable and have just regular over the air TV in the US (via an antenna), you'll have other problems in Feb, 2009... check out DTV Answers for more information on those set-top boxes (link below).

Alternatively, you should be able to still get the "basic" channels using a simple VCR and/or DVD recorder.  If you already have one of these, just use it (otherwise, you should be able to pick one up for under $50).  The only draw-back is that you probably won't be able to receive "digital channels" (unless you really know what you are looking for).

Lastly, a TV repair shop should be able to EASILY fix your problem... though, if your TV is small it might be cheaper to simply buy a new one.  But as I stated earlier, just make sure it has both digital and analog tuners.  Many TVs today do not have these any more.
