Problem with my TV: toshiba 52hxm85. HELP?

Question

my bulb keeps on popping after 400 - 800 hours of watching and thats no where near the time its supposed to last (manual says 6000 - 8000). What can i do so that the bulb lasts longer?

There have been many problems with this lamp with many other people and i would like to know if anything can be done?

a good cause of lamp burn out after short use is if you keep turning the unit on and off, just leave it on if you will be back to watch TV shortly, also the balast on the older toshibas had some issues, so if is is a few years old complain to Toshiba google your modle number to find other peoples complaints.
