  1. tell your boss to get a new one, the one u have is probably ancient.

  2. How Much RAM do you have?

How full is your Hard Drive?

How many programs do you have starting up with the computer starts up.??

These three items will cause lock ups.

If you are running XP you should have 1GB of RAM.

If you are running VISTA you should have 2GB of RAM.

Check to properties of your C: drive.  Open MY Computer (XP) or Computer (Vista)  and Right Click on the C: drive and select properties and see how full the disk is.    DEFRAG the hard Drive.

Start up Programs - The only program you need to start is the anti virus program.   Click on start - Run and type MSCONFIG into the TEXT BOX.  When the System Configuration Utility opens go to the SERVICS TAB and TIC  "HIDE Microsoft Services" and UN-Tic what is left, except your anti virus program.

Next go to the STARTUP tap and UN-Tic everything except your antivirus program.  Click OK and reboot the computer.

If you are running Norton Internet Security or any other Symantic product  OR PC-Cillin...   OR any of the all in one big security suites.

UNINSTALL THEM. and go with AVG Free or AVAST  for anti virus.

And SPY BOT SEARCH AND DESTROY for anti spyware.

Those big security suites are memory hogs and are over rated.

  3. Maybe it's hanging because you have multiple anti-virus applications trying to all access the same things at the same time.

ONE anti-virus program is MORE than enough.

Remove one - 4 of them, and leave ONE to do the job.

    I prefer AVG.

  4. NOOOOO GET spybot of there now i was using that carppy " spyware detector" and it doesnt work. U need WIndows detector - for spyware and Nortons symantec- for viruses.... IM not computer genius but my father is ( he worked for DNB For 20 years)

  5. There is a good chance the problem is a hardware one - power supply, RAM, or a heat problem, and if it is a company computer the company can get it fixed. You only have a problem if you have loaded some non-work application on it that has mucked it up.

It may be that there is not enough free space on the hard drive. The free download "Easy Cleaner" http://www.snapfiles.com/get/Easy-Cleane... can be set to look for .log and .bak files and clear "temporary folders" that don't clear themselves as they should.

On my system I do use Spybot. I do have other antispyware programmes, but they are set so they are not active other than when I open them manually. Having two or more running can cause conflicts.

They same is true of antivirus programmes - only one should be operating. I use Comodo, but AVG, and Avira are OK. The important thing with antivirus or antispyware programmes is update them DAILY.

I wouldn't use Norton or McAfee - Kapersky is the only commercial one I'd consider.

  6. Windows freeze is more common than most people think but most of the times is a hardware problem, if you think is not a card shortcut (like a bad memory in the video card or a bad RAM) it must have to be a problem with the thermocouple below the processor (thermo sensor's position may vary) so try to keep open and fresh your PC case.
