Question:

Problem with "Black In America"?

So i'm watching "Black In America" and i'm bothered because it does exactly what the black community DOESN'T need: a pity story. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with having a story of trials and tribulations, but this is mostly 1-2 hours of showing down and out Africans. It gives the message that they need "our" help, which i think gives whites the idea that, hey, maybe we ARE superior to them.

This show should focus on the good, positive actions Blacks have had in the past (Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X, etc) and the present (Barack Obama), also focus on where blacks are going in the future.

  1. I agree with you. Why cant we all just get along, stop living the past and live for the future?

  2. Condi

  3. GOOD POINT

  4. Where they're going in the future...you mean prison?

I keed. Seriously though, I've long been saying the black community is their own worst enemy. They've got a "poor me" complex, and EXPECT help, and they p**s and moan when they ARE,  in fact, being treated equally by the system, if not by individual people.

  5. good point except Malcolm X was a radical he said all white people were the devil and should be exterminated i don't think that is any focus on good

  6. Good point. There is so much good that have been done by blacks, yet the only thing that you will ever see is the "poor, downtrodden" black people.

I am not saying that the black community doesnt have its MAJOR problems but showing us as the perpetual victims that need to be saved is exactly the patronization that we endured during slavery. And the patronization was to prove that we were not smart enough to run our own lives, so rich white land owners could keep their free labor. (NOTE: Not all white people owned land or slaves)

It is EXTREMELY hard being a black woman but I'm not down for being the victim. I'm too smart for that.

  7. i agree
