Question:

Problem with "Top Stories" Module in My Yahoo?

Why does the cursor sometimes appear as a magnifying glass, and other times appear as a hyperlink "finger", when I hover over the headlines in "Top Stories"?

When in "magnifying glass" mode, clicking on the headline merely opens a window with a slightly more detailed headline inside. But, when in "hyperlink" mode, it goes to the full article.

For obvious reasons, I want it to behave like the latter, where it goes to the full article. Yet, I do not see any way to adjust this behavior. Is there a way to set it to do the proper thing at all times, and disable the stupid magnifying glass mode forever?

  1. With all due respect, I think cj missed the point of your question.

    What you are seeing is either the My Yahoo! Reader or Article Preview. These are two different, but similar options. They are supposed to be "convenience" features so you can scan more of the article without having to launch another browser window or tab. I find it useful because sometimes you can get access to the full article.

    These are both configuration options that you can change if you'd rather disable them. Here's what you need to do:

    * On the My Yahoo! page, click "Personalize this page"

    * Under the Options heading, click "My Yahoo! Reader"

    * Click "Off"

    * Go back to Options

    * Click "Article Preview"

    * Click "Off"

    That's it. For both of these options you'll also find a "what's this" link that will pop up an explanation of the feature.

    Enjoy,
