  1. I'd call/email Sky's technical helpline.

  2. go into the services menu, select option 4 "system setup", then select option 6 "signal test" . If either the signal quality or strength bars are very low or constantly changing at a low level you will need your system serviced. switching off from the mains and restarting the box will work OK for a while but eventually you will either have permanent missing channels or permanent no sat signal until the power supply on the box goes and the box will be permanently in standby (red light) mode.

in your case is more likely to be the LNB on the satellite dish

  3. try this first, unplug the system and leave it off for around 20 seconds, then plug in and see if it is working, if not, contact sky and explain to them what has happened, they will then run through a list of questions and will try and help fix the problem over the phone rather than an engineer being called out.

  4. I have this on quite a few of my channels and at this moment sat waiting for sky to come(yes on a Sunday) and repair it.

I called them technical support line 1st and they go through it step by step, or if you need it repaired they will arrange a day at a cost of £65 if its out of guarantee
