Problem with starting. i have had this mp3 playing for quite sometime and when the batteries died

i have had this mp3 playing for quite sometime and when the batteries died and i switched them now the display only says starting.... and thats all..whats wrong..also my computer no longer reads the mp3 player..what should i do?
