i'm on a swim team and we have two hour practices. i have strong periods..so i use the most absorbent tampax pearl tampons, but every time i get out of the pool i drip red on the floor and my legs..its really embarrassing. i've already tried asking my coach if i can go to the bathroom but he aways says 'if you have to go, you should have gone before practice' and my mom says all the other girls have to deal with it so i shouldn't have a problem. the only advice shes given me is to use 2 tampons at once so does anyone else have any advice?

  1. Hey i have stong periods too and it really sucks. I ride horses so i make sure i have the most absorbant tampon ever too. I have leaked before. I would hate it if i leaked on my thousand dollar saddle!!! Since you hared an embarassing period story with us Ill share with you one of mine.

One day i woke up. Tuh duh I was on my period. I was on the medium tampon thing. I was a freshmen. I did no t have a first period class. I was on heavy flow. And i had to change alot. I changed only one hour before class and when i got up there I sat in my seat then i just wanted to make sure i wasnt leaking so i bent down in my seat and opened up to see if i was. Guess what...i was. And the embarassing thing was it was in front of the class. But i think only one girl saw. It was really bad. Luckily i had a jacket and i tried to cover up. I went to the office to call my mom and had to announce in front of everyone i needed more tampons and extra pair of clothes. The thing that really sucked was she did not bring me any underwear!!!!!

But anyway. wow. two tampons??never tried that before. Your mom cant like talk to the coach for you and explain to him/her? If its a guy that really sucks. He wouldnt care because he wouldnt understand what us girls go through. Maybe you could go off on him/her. Say sternly "I have a heavy flow. Blood comeing out of me! I DID go before i came to practice!" But i would only say that if i really got mad and sick of it.

Also to the tampion put in a pad. One that dont havfe the flaps. And a thin one. I will help for reassurence i guess. You wont leak so bad. Thats what i do when i ride.

My mom says if you have a super heavy flow all the time you should ask your doctor about it. And it might be a good idea.

Try telling your coach "with all do respect other girls dont have blood leaking out everytime they are on their period"

Im sorry. I wish there was a bigger tampon. But maybe sit down with your coach. And have a serious discussion with him/her. A serious one. Tell him/her you love swimming but you have to change and you dont want to leak. stuff like that.

I wish i could be more of a help. Good luck

p.s. If this gets even more serious and your tired of leaking and being embarassed go talk to a docotr! Ask for a doctors note saying you have a heavy flow. I dont know maybe that might help. I know the doctor will do it. Theres no reason you should be forced to swim when and not get the chane to chaange when your on your period.

  2. I had the same problem when I was on the swim team. It's eerily the same :P

All you have to do is suck it up, I know it's embarrassing, and TALK TO YOUR COACH. Yeah, he's a dude, and it's totally weird to talk to him about stuff like this but when you tell him what's going and make HIM EMBARRASSED then you've just turned the tables on him. So when you ask to go to the restroom, he'll know why and let you go.

At least that's what I did. If that doesn't work, try to get your mom involved. And you're last resort: talk to other women coaches at your school and get them, the coaches and the school, involved.

  3. Well you really can't use two tampons at once.

You need to change them often.  If your coach won't let you, you need to tell him/her what is up, and go change whether he likes it or not.

  4. The best you stop joining the swim team until your period really dried up before it embarrassed yourself.

  5. In private tell your coach why you really need to use the bathroom.  Chances are he will not want any more information and let you jump out of the pool for 5 mins.  Its embarassing, but you have a right to get out of the pool...I highly doubt it will interfere with your training.

  6. mayb u cud use a liner in ur bathing suit da most dat pisses me off is how rude ur coach is mayb u shud get ur mum to talk to ur coach bout dis or wen u get out of da pool just go change neva mind da coach men dont understand dis stuff until u tell them men r thick sorry but wen it comes to women stuff they dont av a clue!
