I was AWOL from an IDT and i havent been to Basic training yet. I was wondering is it illegal for them to give me 8 days in the county prison, extra duties helping the recruiter, and now they are trying to throw me in jail for having debt. I told them when i joined i had debt and they did nothing about it obviously and i am now at their disgression. I am no longer wanting to be in the military and am sick of the abuse they are giving me. What can i do about this situation? Another thing he said that if i go down to their pre-ship academy and fail to ship out that they could legally hold me their for two years, and that i can be thrown in jail for not going to. HELP???

  1. YOu need to speak with a JAG officer and tell him that you are UNABLE TO COPE WITH MILITARY STANDARDS. YOu have 180 days from the time you join the service to be discharged with this excuse.

I didn't realize that you could go AWOL before boot camp. I swore in the day befor basic training.

  2. call your congressman or senator.

  3. This is ALL completely LEGAL.  BUT-There is a way out, with strings attached.-  you can call JAG, and tell them you want to use the "unable to cope with military standards" excuse. The catch is, you have to have completed basic training and actually have reason for "not being able to cope". After that, you can get discharged. There is a time limit on this, so contact JAG immediately. Once your time line elapse you're SOL.

  4. Talk to JAG, they'll get you out. Just call the nearest base, it doesn't have to be army it can be any one and you can even try guard and reserve units.
