Question:

Problem with upper lip hair.....what to do?

About three years ago, when my friend was 11, she noticed some dark hairs on her upper lip. She was so self-conscious, she shaved them off with her mum's razor.

Since then the hairs have been coming again and again darker and heavier (or so she says - I haven't actually noticed). Anyway she's resulted to a razor every time because she's scared of wax! Does anyone have any solutions I could give her because I don't think shaving is the right thing to do?

  1. Waxing is the most effective method but if she's frightened of waxing then I would go for bleaching. You can buy special facial hair bleach. I wouldn't recommend facial hair remover like immac or nair as i've found they make the hair grow back stubbly. Waxing mean the hair grows back finer and it lasts about 6-8 weeks before you need to do it again. I think it's worth it for the few seconds of pain! (but make sure you're not going anywhere for a while as it stays red for about an hour!)

  2. cut it off!

  3. shaving is very bad because it causes more hairs to grow in only one hair follicle, thats why she's getting more hair on her lip. i suggest tweezing, or a hair removal creme. other than that wax is the best choice because the hair becomes finer and doesnt come back as much as before.

  4. Wax! Hot wax or wax strips, then your hair will grow thinner and fairer... and razors are not good ._.

BTW wax doesn't hurt, don't be afraid.

  5. Plucking, with a good pair of tweezers. As it will just remove the unwanted hair, and not affect the skin on the face; as skin on the face is more delicate.

  6. Nair hair removal cream is pretty good, shaving is not good for a girl. She should talk to her Mom and go see a GP she may be entitled to laser removal on the NHS or at least get it done at a salon professionally.

  7. nair is possibly the best solution, but make sure to do a test 24 hours before doing it on your face as the last thing you want is a big red mark below your nose.  they have a specialised one for facial hair.  i wouldn't advise shaving again though as it just makes it worse.  there is also bleach, there is a specialised bleach you can use to lighten them too.

  8. Try using hair removal cream. You can buy certain ones that help with the upper lip. Or get it laserd off. Or she could die it lighter. Or she could do what i do and get it waxed.

  9. Nair....or threading

  10. The hair tends to appear thicker when shaved because it is cut into a blunt edge. For the lip, I recommend bleaching, Nair (for face) or threading. As a woman ages, the hair grows on the face more.  She can eventually look into laser treatments as well, but that can be costly.

  11. She should only be scared of self waxing, it is much easier to get it done professionally, my sister once got blisters and swelling from upper lip waxing. Shaving like a man gives you 5 o clock shadow and very stubbly bristly hairs, and your face is noticeable! Or she could use hair bleach to make them white and less noticeable, all women have a slight blonde moustache but its invisible unless someone looks close up.

  12. tell her to be brave and get it waxed if she keeps shaving she will end up with a 5.oclock shadow.

  13. I had the same problem, when I was younger I shaved my upper lip hair off because I thought that is what you were supposed to do. Sally Hansen's Creme Hair Remover Kit For Face, Upper Lip & Chin works wonders! You can get it at like CVS or Rite Aid. It is pretty cheap too. You put the creme on your unwanted hair for 8 minutes and then just wipe it off, I use it about once a month. For more information go to the website http://www.sallyhansen.com/product.cfm?p...

    Good Luck. Hope this helps.

    God Bless!

  14. well, i have had a similar problem and i feel shaving is possibly the worst thing to do... but.. i think your friend just has a concious problem. hair removal cream has worked amazingly, it can be applied without any pain when its removed unlike waxing. katie
