Question:

Problem with writing HD films on DVD!

I have a Sony SR7 camcorder that takes high definition (HD) movies and saves them on its internal hard disc. Then I transfer the files to the computer. Sony has provided a software with the camcorder for managing and writing HD movies on DVD. I tried writing my HD movie files on DVD but it didn't work. I also have a "B's Recorder Gold Basic" software that is used for burning CDs and DVDs. I think it is likely that the "B's Recorder Gold Basic" software prevents the Sony software from writing HD files on DVD. Does anybody have the same problem or any idea?

  1. The SR7 captures high definition data and saves to AVCHD format. This must be decoded for editing... MovieMaker can't handle AVCHD. If you want to just copy the AVCHD files from the camcorder to a regular DVD, the only thing that will play that back are a BluRay DVD player (including a PS3).

If you want to edit the video before burning the DVD, only the current versions of Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere (there are other apps that say the can - and they probably can - but these two generally float to the top as "best") can. Once in the editor, then you can Save As or export... to whatever file type you want... though if you want to play in a regular DVD player then an avi would be a good idea... then use a DVD authoring tool like what you have or WinDVD to make a scene selection menu and render the finished video project out (let the application make the VOB file that the regular DVD player can understand...
