Question:

Problems Flushing my toilet

When I flush my toilet I can't get all of the solid waste to go out. Not that there is anything big it just takes 3 or 4 flushes. The water comes from the tank to the bowl with no problem but it just seems to sit there & go around & around. I've tried different types of drain cleaner & no luck. Any ideas????

  1. Take a bucket of water with about three gallons of water and pour it into the bowl and if it clears, the problem is in the tank, flapper or low water level or blocked rim wash. If pouring water into bowl does not clear it than you have a blockage. No drain cleaner should be used since they produce heat and can break the inside of the bowl, read the directions first!

  2. Make sure the water level in the tank is the correct height. Usually there is a high level mark in blue ink. It is possible the float might need replacing. Some times an accumulation of residue builds up on the float and it doesn't allow to attain the proper height.

  3. The line could be plugged if it swirls but doesn't go down have a plumber run a closet auger down it. Try this first- Take the tank lid off and pull up on the chain lifting the flapper letting all the water out. How does it flush then?
