I have an arowana and everytime I do water changes he develops a white slimy fungus on his body. The last arowana I had died the next day after I changed the water. I only change 20gal. out of a 70gal. tank. I use water conditioner but do not let the water sit overnight. I really need some help with this. I don't want to lose a second arowana but he isn't looking so good right now.

  1. Can you get a full water test from your water company?

There may be something in there thats upsetting your fish, the extra slime is normally a reaction to something aggravating a fish's skin.

Another option is the get a Reverse Osmosis filter to ensure you have clean water going into tthe tank.

  2. hes buliding excess mucus on his body, which means that he could be sick and he's trying to build and ammunity to it, or more commonly that something is irritating it. you really do need to let the water sit longer. the most likely reason that your last arowana died is from shock, yeah the water will shock and then kill them. the chemicals also need a lot of time to fully set into the water. the clorine in the water could be whats making him sick. whenever you decide its time to change the water, get a small tank for the fish to sit in, with a cover, because the arowana will jump out of the tank....i had a bad experience with that lol. let it sit for about a night, then put him back in. also, you need to treat the small tank one night before you put the fish in that.

    hope this helped :)
