Ok so I'm 17 and considering getting the HPV Vaccine. I want to know if there has been any findings on any health problems caused by the vaccine. Especially if there's been any findings about health problems that happen years after the vaccine has been administered, for example any increased risk of birth defects? Links greatly appreciated =) <3

  1. I have been hearing tidbits about this as well. I just received my 3rd and final shot. I hope this is not the case.

  2. I'm not sure if you'll be able to find much about problems AFTER getting the vaccine, because I dont think it's been out that long. i thought the FDA only approved it not too long ago. I get my 3rd (out of 3) shot at the end of this month, and i havent noticed a change. The shot hurts a little more than a normal one (even a few hours after it feels like someone punched you), but other than that i've felt fine. I guess it's a risk either way, because you can either be infected with the HPV virus or MAYBE get health problems later on (like birth defects). But i think i'd rather avoid the deadly virus. if i have problems later on and i cant have children or something, i can always adopt! but if i get the deadly virus now, i wont even live to see what other options i have. in my opinion i'd say get the vaccine - just make sure your insurance covers it!! it can be VERY expensive!

  3. It is very new. There have been a few cases of paralysis reported. But the vaccine is so new that they don't have enough evidence to prove that they were or were not caused by the vaccine.

  4. i got the vaccine. i started the shots at 18 and ended by 19. i dont even know why. my doctors office signed every girl up for it so i just got it. you receive 3 shots total. the last one made me so sick. i think it was a side effect but i was nauceus/headache/just that sick feeling for about a week. i read about and it seemed to be good. im not quite sure about long term effects.

  5. i really dont think you should get it becuase it can lead to all that i say u get it when they do more studies on it its still al ittle new.

  6. I went onto the CDC website (if I'm seriously worried about a medication, I get information from an independent organisation from the drug company). The website stated the following (I have included the link below):

    Safety of the HPV vaccine

This vaccine has been licensed by the FDA and approved by CDC as safe and effective. It was studied in thousands of females (ages 9 through 26 years) around the world and its safety continues to be monitored by CDC and the FDA. Studies have found no serious side effects. The most common side effect is soreness in the arm (where the shot is given). There have recently been some reports of fainting in teens after they got the vaccine. For this reason, it is recommended that patients wait in their doctor’s office for 15 minutes after getting the vaccine.

  7. Is the HPV vaccine safe?

The vaccine has been licensed as safe. Before it was approved by the FDA, the vaccine was studied in thousands of females 9 through 26 years of age in the United States and around the world. The most common side effect is soreness where the shot is given.

Who monitors the safety of vaccines?

CDC and FDA work together to closely monitor the safety of all U.S. vaccines.

One tool that is used to monitor vaccine safety is the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). VAERS is a national reporting system that accepts and monitors reports of potential side effects following vaccination.
