During early years? Virtually none. The W123 diesel and W114 diesel were known as the best cars produced, ever. The W114 was made from 1970?-1977 and the W123 was made from 1978-1985. So, if you consider that early years, then Mercedes faced almost no problems. Mercedes did begin to face problems, however, after the year 1986. Even the diesel were struggling. Quality went way down but price remained the same. From then till just a few years ago, quality and reliability were just not up to par. During the past 3 or 4 years, they have made a turn around and are now producing the cars they are famous for.

to yogi: they didnt make no custom cars for princess!!!!.  financing the production of cars that daimler had in mind, was in turmoil. That was when an Austrian investor, actually some one in the ruling power said he would finance the production only if the cars they produced would be called after his daughter-Mercedes. Later when Daimler and Benz's companies united after their deaths,The cars began to be called Mercedes-Benz. It is an icon.One negative aspect though is that they are too common-which is one of the reason why young turks now go behind other luxury brands.Because every other rich guy from the era of your great great grand dad has a Mercedes.

It was Benz and they custom made a car for a princess named Mercedes. The brand was so popular that the cars were named Mercedes Benz thereon.There was no looking back ever since.Mabe during World War 2, when Germany was bombed by the Allied forces. But it recovered soon after and mercedes became one of the top brands in cars.They are so quality conscious that even if there is a scratch on the outer paint, they will repaint the whole car again.Can anyone beat that?

It should be from 1992 to 2005. The early years has some of the best engines and cars still running.
