Problems formatting a micro sd card?

I bought a micro sd card with adapter for my cell phone and had some pictures stored on it. But then I think I made a mistake of inserting into the sd slot on my laptop without formatting it on the phone first. I got an error message that it can't be formatted. So the person at verizon tried formatting it on the phone, and she told me that it should work in my laptop now. But it doesn't. I think it gives me another error message. Did I ruin the card? If so, I will probably buy a new one. And I'm guessing I should let verizon format it, right?

the full format is on the phone itself you can right click on your computer and go down to format and do what it says.
