Question:

Problems installing Mac OSX?!?

Okay so basically I was in Disk Utility, trying to erase my hard drive before reinstalling mac osx. So I chose the erase 7 times over option and left it while I went out for a few hours. When I came back, the erase had not made any progress. I decided to reboot the installer, and when I did my hard drive was renamed disk0s2! I figured that this wasn't a big deal, so I did another erase (the "Don't erase data" one) without any problems. I then tried to install mac osx, and while my macbook was checking the disc, it said that there was a problem (It said to check for fingerprints and scratches etc.) This was weird, because the disc was new and there was no blemish to be found. So I tried restarting my computer multiple times and I still got the same error message.

Okay, so this brings me to my question: why is my computer doing this? What can I do to fix it? (In otherwords, I am 90% sure this is an issue with my computer..what can I do to fix it?)

THANKS

  1. Why are you trying to do all these strange things?  You don't need to use the Disk Utility at all!!!

Just boot to the OS X disk and choose the option to format and install a clean version.

Still stuck?  Call Apple Tech Support, that's what they do.

  2. If it told you to “check for fingerprints and scratches etc.“, then you had selected a CD/DVD.

Insert your install disc, restart and press and hold the C key to boot off the DVD.

    The select Erase and Install.
