Problems opening port on router?

i have a d-link router and i need to open a port to use utorrent. i know how to get into the router configurations but i dont want to change anything in case i stuff the whole thing up. i couldnt find anything about opening ports on there. i really wanna use utorrent but i cant figure out how to open the port. i tried that portforwarding website but didnt help as they dont have d-link routers listed. i tried the http://192.168.1.1 but it dosent go anywere. what do i do? is there anyway to use a torrent client without opening a port on the router?

    find your router and then follow the application guide (utorrent)


  2. 192.168.1.1 should work... if your using a router , you have to open up the listening port or your downloads will be c**p. Look at the manual, it should say where the port forwarding is. When your forwarding the port, make sure you choose your computers current ip adress.. if your the only one on your network you should be 192.168.100 , but you could get a different number if you have multiple people or are messing around, so you could forward the port to the wrong person..

  3. Access the router setup pages (default for D-link is 192.168.0.1 user = admin  password = blank (leave empty)

    Once in look at your status page for your LAN and get the IP address of the computer you want to forward the port to

    Now go to the advanced page

    Enter the number of the port you want to forward

    Enter the IP address of the machine to send the data to

    Save the change

    Restart the router

    You should be good to go

    FYI - for best security - disable the port forwarding when not downloading
