Problems reloading xp after crash

Question

hi i recently changed over to windows xp home.and  after about a week of setting everything up i attempted to load my chameleon (largan) digital camera and crashed the system.after trying everything i knew. i finally fdisked my drive,created a new partition,and reformated.now my problem is when i try to reload windows after i put in the windows 98 bootdisk and get to the point of setup i get a message that states this program can not be run while in dos mode. thats with xp however when i put 98 in it goes on fine. im useing the fat 32 system. somebody please help.   thank you
