i recently purchased a nVIDIA GeForce4 Ti4200 128-MB AGP Graphics Card ..My motherboard is a ASUS P4V8X-MX 478 VIA P4M800 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard..a couple days after purchasing the graphics card i purchased a vga splitter so i could set up a dual monitor system..well now that i have everything i need and set up... its not working properly..when i turn on the cpu both screens are visible they are clones of each other..but after about 5seconds my secondary screen goes blank..when i change appearance settings it does the same thing both screens are visible but then a few seconds later the secondary goes off..so i know that it recognizes the second screen but it doesnt show me i have two monitors in my display settings either..and i downloaded a program that is supposed to extend the features of dual screens and its not showing me two either only my primary screen..i am not totally sure the wattage on my power supply but i think its between a 300 and a 350..could this be the problem...what is a good way to diagnose my problem..thanks a bunch..please help i need a sure fire way to fix this problem

  1. Hi

I hope you dident spent to much on your splitter becouse you dont need it all you need is a DVI-to-VGA converter its a small very cheap device that somtimes comes with your graphics card did you get one?

If not like i say there really cheap just google it or ebay

You plug it in to the big white DVI port on the card wich is located below the Big blue VGA port

then just plug 1 monitor in to the blue VGA port and plug the other monitor in to the new DVI-to-VGA converter and your done turn your machine on both moniters will come to life and stay alive

You will be able to choose from many modes such as clone desktops split desktops merged desktops watch a movie on one while work on the other

all of that is available in the Nvidia software that came with the card wich btw u should update as soon as possible :)

Hope this helps you if u need further advice just ask

  2. If you are using a VGA splitter your computer won't recognise 2 different monitors as it sees only the one output. This means that you can't use dual-view, only clone.

No idea why the screen keeps turning off though.
