Problems trying to set up network with 2 laptops

Question

I have managed to get my new laptop online using my original laptop's internet connection but I cannot seem to 'see' the new computer on my network. Am not sure why this is? Also I would like to be able to transfer files from old to new computer but as I cant see the new computer on my network I dont know how to do this...

Windows by default hides itself on a network to try to keep hackers away. Go to your my documents folder on both computers and create a folder called shared documents, then right click the folder (in WinXP) and click Sharing and Security, then click the button that says share this folder.

Once thats done just go to my network places and you should see the other computer's shared folder and you can place or retreive items from there.

I could say you cannot see the network on your new computer.Go-tools-internet options-connections or in the menu from the control panel.The other posibility is to use a router.
