  1. I hate AVG.

    What to do:

    1 turn off system restore

    2. boot in safe mode with networking

    3. do a free online scan

    http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html

4 re boot if clean turn on system restore.

  2. I used AVG up to 7.5 no problem, but V8 sucks big time.

Many still proclaim it as the best, but it is far from it.

    Regards Win32.Heur I quote from AVG's site:

" An "ActiveX Compatibility" registry key is a result of the "Immunize" function included in some anti-spyware programs (e.g.: "Spybot search & destroy", "Spyware blaster",...)

The key contains the same registry entries as the actual threats, thus preventing them from working correctly. Some anti-spyware programs use this method to prevent launching of the malware. Unfortunately, these parts are still detected by AVG signatures and that is why AVG marks them as infected.

To assure protection provided by AVG against these threats, it is not possible to remove such signatures from AVG virus bases.

Because of this, "Immunize" function included in above mentioned softwares is NOT compatible with AVG products."

So AVG are actively trying to stop programs like Spybot from being installed as it conflicts with their antivirus.

Now I recommend Avast anti-virus free edition, better definitions, anti-spyware and anti-rootkit built in, faster and more reliable:

  4. I would suggest that you get Avast. It is free for personal use.

Yesterday, my free anti-virus caught a trojan virus.

To ensure that the virus caught is not a false positive, I upload it to virus total web site to check.

    http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/c3558...

To my surprise, all the big names in Anti-virus industry cannot detect the trojan. The one that detect the trojan are mainly the free version.

Avast boot scan in Windows safe mode is the most effective way to get rid of stubborn trojans and viruses that keep coming back to haunt you.

These trojan and viruses hide themselves in system restore folder and many anti-virus programs cannot get rid of them. So whenever, you restart your PC,

the viruses are restore back by WIndows.

Avast boot scan help to get rid of them in the system restore folders and ensure your system are clean.

  5. even there are no items in the virus vault, there are still files in the virus vault's directory (C:\ $avg8.vault$) which is a hidden system folder. delete all the files there if there's any. to scan again and delete the viruses. if failed again...reinstall avg.

i expect points... thank you!!! :)

  6. Do an online scan and clean here http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html , download the installer from here http://www.avast.com/ (you need to register for free), uninstall the c**p and install Avast.
