Problems with DCH3416 DVR recording a season pass with new episodes only?

I have Time Warner Cable and have recently been given a Motorola DCH3416 DVR. In short, it's pure c**p. I make a season pass of something...choosing "new" episodes only, and it records many duplicates. It's fine with network shows, but seems to have issues with cable shows. At first I thought there was just something wrong with the box I had, and exchanged it for a new one. Now, the same thing is happening. Is anyone else having the same problem? Is there anyway to fix this? I'm getting tired of constantly looking at "future recordings" to cancel ALL the repeats of a show I watched a week ago.

Are they all being recorded from the same channel? Or is it a show that's also shows older episodes on other channels (Like Criminal Intent)?  

Alll DVRs encounter that problem, not just the Motorola since episodes aired on different channels are not recognized as duplicates.
