Problems with Kicker IX404 Car Audio Amplifier?

Hey i have a problem w/ my kicker amplifier it get really d**n hot..and after a while it shuts off..the little green power lights turns red...what seems to be the problem can any one help

  1. i agree with inktown. all the other ppl saying to get a bigger fan dont know what they are talking about.

    first, make sure you are not bridging the amp under an ohm load it does not support.

    check your amp settings. never have any setting set to MAX, and never have the gain/level set over 3/4 high.

    check the grounding on the amp. if the wire is not connected good, this will cause a problem. make sure the surface to where the ground wire is connected at is; clean, no dirt/oil, no paint, and is tightly on the surface.


  2. your amp needs a bigger fan, probably because your pushing it too hard. try Action-Electronics.com Be sure to drill holes on the opposite side of the fan (take casing off first) so the air runs through the amp.

  3. is the amp big enough (RMS wattage)

    do you have to correct impedance at the amp (ohms)

    how good is your ground

    is the gain set correctly
