Question:

Problems with LG LCD TV

Hello. I have a LG LCD TV. It is about 1.5 years old. It is hooked up to a Monster Cable surge protector specifically for LCD TVs. I turn on the power and the power light flashes for a few seconds and then the screen will come on fine (can watch tv), after about 5 minutes it shuts itself off. After that it goes back on but doesnt show anything on screen (cant watch tv). I have already unplugged for 30 mins hoping it would reset but seems to be a bigger issue. Possibly power supply problem? How much does that cost to fix? Any other opinions/ideas? Thanks!

  1. YOU SEEM to have an issue with the microprocessor....It shuts down the TV, locks up your remote and power button and **magically** makes your video disappear !

You have one of two possible problems.....

Your 5 volt regulator could be heating up and dropping it's voltage down enough to thwart normal operation of the micro, if it's below 3.75 Volts it's going to make the micro take a dump.....

OR it could be you are losing your data bus....if your data pulses go below that same 3.75 Volts it causes the micro and the Video/Audio/Tuning/Sensor ICs to quit communicating....

So  it COULD be your power supply....

OR it COULD  be your signal board....

And that means you either buy BOTH boards at a cost of $650.00

OR you take it to an authorized servicer and have them charge $450 total for the power board or $600 for the Signal board.....

And you MIGHT get lucky and find something that's repairable down to COMPONENT LEVEL  (yeahhhh, a $270 repair job sounds a whole lot better than throwing boards at the problem, doesn't it....)

  2.   I am just wondering if the TV is not "playing nice together" with that surge protector?  Try running the TV direct (without the surge protector) and see what happens.

  3. it could possiby be the lamp in the back the same thing happened to mine. i replaced the lamp and it worked fine.
