Problems with Mirena?

I've had the mirena in for a few months now and ever since I've had it, i've had a bad smell in my v****a. Has this happened to anyone else? I clean my v****a very well, so I dont think that could be the problem. And also, has anyone's partner complained about feeling the string of the iud. My husband and I can hardly have s*x anymore because he feels like something is poking him inside me. Please be serious about this. I come on here for answers not to be made fun of. Thanks!!

  1. I have had  my mirena since Nov 07.  I have experienced this before and when i went to the doc he treated me for bactiria vaginosous, and it has went away.  Some people with the mirena say that they get these and yeast infections all the time.  I am a very clean person too but things like this happen sometimes for no reason.  My doc says he gets a lot of complaints from his patiens about their partners feeling the stings at first.  He simply cuts them back very far, but I cant check to see if it is in place, I have to make an appointment to havce and ultrasound done.  He did say that after a while the strings soften, and curl up an that helps the poking problem.  I would say make an appointment with your doc and have them test you for infections and see if you cant get him to trim the strings back some.  Just let him know that it is very bothersom to your husband and you want them trimmed back.  Good luck

  2. Its very uncommon to have a bad smell associated with Mirena.  You should get your doctor to check to make sure everything is ok - it might be some sort of low grade infection that just happened at the same time.

As far as the string, it sounds like it was left a little too long.  It needs to be cut during insertion.  Get your doctor to snip it shorter and your husband won't be able to feel it anymore.
