Question:

Problems with Sky-Plus

I had Sky installed 9 months ago - and it has been brilliant, recording, series linked recording etc. However, about 2 weeks ago it started to play up - failed recordings, no recordings, not series linking etc. That said, it appears to be intermittent - sometimes working, sometimes not. I am not doing anything different, but don't know where to start exploring. It is so expensive to sit on the phone talking to operatives in call centres, thus I am hoping that an alternative explanation may be available? Anyone have any ideas? Thank you.

  1. the sky+ are not designed to last long, poor quality internal power supply and low cost hard drive.intermittent faults with the sky + soon develop into permanent faults .the best solution is to ring up sky and book a service call since you are still in the 12 month guarantee, dont let this run out since it will cost £65 after. also before the date of the service call copy all the programs you want to keep to a vcr or dvd-r. When the engineer comes for the service get the box replaced. if the engineer brings you a sky+ on a brown box, it will be a reconditioned unit and it will be likely to develop a fault again. ask for a new box, should come in a white original sky+ packaging, if they refuse complain to head office.

try accessing the service menu, select option 4 system setup, then option 6 signal test. have look at input 2 signal level and see if there is significat difference in signal between input 1 and input 2.
