Question:

Problems with a VTech ia5847 phone - can't talk out?

I recently purchased a VTech ia5847 cordless landline phone for my new house. It comes with one main base, and a second smaller base for elsewhere in the house, each with its own receiver. One of the receivers is working just fine; the other allows me to hear the other person talking, but they can't seem to hear me. Similar to using a pay phone without paying, essentially.

I've tried unplugging both bases, and the batteries on each phone, and then plugging them back in after 20 minutes or so, but that didn't fix it.

Any ideas?

  1. The other handset should have been muted. If you have the user's manual, check how the mute feature works. A single button press should fix it. Normally mute button symbol is a crossed out speaker icon. Press this button.

If the problem still exist, the handset microphone should be faulty. Have it fixed by a qualified technician.
