Problems with above ground pool?

Which is better....sand filter or cartridge filter? I have an algae bloom in my 24' above ground pool that I haven't been able to "cure". Pool store owner is helping, but so far, nothing has worked....super shock, algaecide, etc. We think it's time to maybe try a new filter....any thoughts? This has been going on for about the last month. Cannot see the bottom of the pool...green like pea soup. Really frustrating. Have never had this happen before.

  1. a de filter{dietomacious earth} filter is the best filter on the maket right now i have seen then last up to ten years.average life span for the grids is three to five years.but floor and walls need to be brushed with pool brushed first then add algicide then wait 24 hours.then back wash filter and re charge with new de.if sand filter backwash then rinse the lines. then add clorine.wait 24 hours then repeat these steps until  clear.this might take up to a week or two. i have seen this take two days but this rare. i own a pool company

  2. If you have a sand filter, the sand is only good for about three years. After that it starts to lose it's effectiveness and needs the sand emptied and replaced. I used Baquacil when I first started with a pool and keeping it algae free was always a problem. My son's friend, who worked for the City maintaining pools, said use Chlorine as it naturally kills algae and never needs an extra algaecide. Since I switched I haven't had algae problems except when first opening the pool in the spring and they soon go away with super chlorination.
