i have 2 fish right now in my 10 gallon tank i have never really got it to clear up. i have right now high ph levels witch im using ph down in order to control that but my tank is not clear. it has been dirty from day one. my question could not having enough light on the tank cause this problem. i just changed my water and it went back to being dirty. i used a vaccum to clear all the junk out. im using a 5-10 gallon pump that i also changed the filter on. i also used something that says it will clear the water up but i cant get it to look clear. it looks jut like partially dirty water. after a few days you cant even see that far when looking through it. the lightis ment for a 1-2 gallon tank..

  1. Okay there could be a couple things going on here so I will run through everything briefly that I think may be causing your problem

    1. Using too many chemicals - Stop using the pH down if it is having no effect on your water. You say high pH but how high is high? It is better for most (almost all except delicate species) to be in a stable pH than neccessary the correct pH, as long as the pH range is withing reason. Also one of the worst things you can put in your tanks are the tabs that clear up your water because it doesn't get rid of any problem you may have with water chemistry it just masks them.

    2. Your tank could be in the cycling process - If you didn't cycle the tank fully before adding fish your tank could still be in the cycling process. Cloudy water is not uncommon during the mid stages of the first cycle. Test all of your parameters and continue to do water changes as needed until things (especially nitrite and ammonia) are close to gone.

    3. An Ammonia Spike - Which is more than likely if you are keeping goldfish in your aquarium. Goldfish are extremely dirty fish and as the rule the first goldfish needs 20 gallons and an additional 10 gallons for everyone after that. If you are keeping goldfish you need to upgrade to at least a 30 gallon tank...but if you are not going to upgrade and/or can't get rid of the fish you need to at least run double filters rated for 2x the aquarium size or one that is rated 4x your current aquarium size.

    4. Not adding dechlorinated water to tank - When doing water changes you need to be sure to add water that is dechlorinated. This is simple enough for a product such as "start right" and add as directed to the amount of water being added (only the water being added not the whole tank). I know this goes against what I was saying in my first statement but water dechlorinator should always be used for water being added

  2. dont put chlorine in your tank it will kill your fish

    get an algea eater

  3. To much light can cause moss and they make sucker fish that help keep it clean I had them they our great they can be with about and fish. Or ask a pet store on what could be wrong.

  4. Chlorine will kill your fish.

Leaving a fish tank light on all the time actually help algae growth.

Try cleaning it out  and using a new water clearing formula. Head to your local pet store, they should be able to tell you what one should work best for your problems. Good luck,

  5. Put chlorine in it. The fish will be fine, trust me.

  6. You don't say what kind of fish you have. Gold fish are the only fish that clouds up your tank no matter what you do
