Problems with flying abroad, please help...?

About a month ago I had applied to renew my passport (British) before I go away to Spain with my friends. Today I had a phone call saying that it had been declined due to the fact that they couldn't get hold of the man who had signed his name on the back of my passport photos (name is Larry and he's a teacher) as he is in Malta on holiday.

I go away a week from today and I am freaking out, it is too late to renew it again as it takes a few weeks and I can't get a new one, can someone please give me a realistic option on how I could still go abroad? I have had this booked for almost a year and I can't back out now.

Both UK and Spain are members of the European Union and of the Schengen zone, so you should not need a passport, and will be fine with a national ID card if you have one.

you can turn up in person ,just ring and pay for appointment .make sure you go with new forms and diferent counter signatory

I'm guessing you are young as you only need a countersignature for renewals if you are under 16 (i think). When you book a holiday it is your responsability to ensure that your passport is valid and you leave enough time to renew if this is required. The only way you are going to get it done now id if you fill in the forms again with a new countersignature and take it directly to Peterborough. It's unlucky that they are checking Larry out as they dont do it to all passports but this is why you should never leave it til the last minute as they can be really funny about that kind of stuff! Can't everyone come to reason ?

If he is genuinely away can they not pass

the photos back to you (i thought your supposed to

get doubles made anyway) and just get somebody

else to sign.   If you then change and countersign

next to the new person signing.....effectively giving

your signature & permission for the new signee !
