I have used my debit card account to pay my ebay fees on the ebay web site. However I haven't use this bank account for a long time and forgot that it hasn't got any money in it! Now I'm so confuse what to do :(

My transaction:

Date Description Debit Credit Balance

15/07/08 Opening Balance (B)$1.53

21/07/08 Ebay Interantion 3633240Au (D)$33.84 (B)-$32.31

22/07/08 Direct Debit Dishon Fee (D)$45.00 (B)-$77.31

22/07/08 Direct Debit Dishonour (C)$33.84 (B)-$43.47

22/07/08 Closing Balance (B)-$43.47

I don't understand the transaction! So how much do I owe the bank? Should I transfer money back to the bank now?

  1. You had $1.53 to start wth.

They subtracted the amount of the eBay transaction out of the account. This left you with negative $32.31.

Then they charged you a $45.00 fee for the overdraft. This left you with a balance of negative $77.31.

Then it looks like the eBay transaction got cancelled out somehow (or they refused to pay it), because that $33.84 was added back in to your account, leaving you with a balance of negtaive $43.47.

So you owe the bank $43.47. Yes, you should transfer at least that much back into the account so you don't accumulate more fees.

  2. hi there, your first entry is ebay taking the money out of your account, second one is your bank fee for not having the money in there, third is the ebay money going back into your account and last one is your balance now.  so you owe the bank 43.47, and ebay wasnt paid.  hope this helps.

  3. You started with $1.53. (line 1)

EBay attempted to charge your account $33.84. (line 2)

The bank rejected the EBay  charge (line 4)

The bank also charged you $45.00 to reject the EBay charge (line 3)

That left you $43.47 in the negative (line 5)

Your bank probably also charges a daily fee until you cover the deficit.
