Problems with laptop internet please help.?

heres the thing i have got a new laptop tried connecting to my home wireless (BT HOME HUB) but it fails, when trying to connect to that wireless. after trying to detect network type it then displays "windows is unable to connect to the selected networks they might not be in range please refresh list.... blah" however i have not moved and are sitting next to it so i can pair with it. so i decided to plug the ethernet in to just get any internet at all. this does not work and does not even notive a network cable even displaying that its unplugged and keeps switching between the two. i have a INTEL PRO/100 VE network connection. with a toshiba portege m100 laptop i've tried all i can think can the driver be outdated ?? i need some help

  1. The only thing that comes to mind immediatley, is that perhaps the wireless network adapter, or whatever you are using to connect, is not compatible with the router.

    This is probably not the case, but without more details, it's hard to associate a solution to your problem
