A friend of mine has just bought a new laptop. When he loads it up it will flash the bios screen then get to a stage and restarts. The way around it is to use the arrow keys and a dos style screen will come up alloing you to load the operating system... in this case vista.

Is this a common problem / is there a way of stoping it restarting itself everytime you turn it on?

  1. If its brand new, I wouldnt even be on here looking for answers.  Take it back to the store and let them worry about that.  That shouldnt b ur problem.  It should b theirs.

  2. Go into the BIOS and check that the "first boot device" is the hard disk (hdd) and not the cd drive, floppy drive, etc.

Otherwise, if there's no data on it yet (i.e. it's brand new) then use the restore cd / dvd to install a fresh image.

  3. can you not just reload the TWO disks again

  4. Make sure your computer is protected with Anti-virus software. This can also be a sign of software or hardware failure.
