Question:

Problems with my kitchen sink / washing machine?

Since I had a new kitchen installed (including new plumbing under the sink) the kitchen sink has started to gurgle every time the washing machine changes cycle during a program.

When this happens their is a foul smell coming from the sink.

I have tried running a 90 degree wash with bleach and vinegar and although this has no doubt cleaned the machine it hasn't solved the problem.

All ideas would be appreciated.

  1. Make sure that a portion of your  washing machine drain hose is higher then the top water level of your washer.

  2. your new plumbing was done improperly. It was not vented correctly.

Let me tell you what you ntice even though i have never been in your home.

when the washing machine dumps the water from the tub you hear gurgeling under the sink and then the odor comes in the house.this is because there is no drain vacuum break between the sink and the washer.

The draining washer tub is pulling the water out of the sink trap and allowing the sewer gas from the street to enter the building..

Ago to a plumbing supply house and tell them the problem ,,,,tell them you need a vacuum break that will fit on your sink drain pipe.

Its a small spring loaded device.

  3. Dishwasher or clothes washing machine?

  4. The vent pipe is plugged and needs to be snaked.  This probably will need to be done from the roof although not always necessary.
