Problems with photos on windows xp?

why all of a sudden on certain sites where there are pictures to be displayed they appear in a white box with a red cross in the corner.

is there an "idiot prrof" way of checking my pc to correct this

  1. If you right-click the frame where the picture is supposed to be, a popup menu will appear. Click "Show Picture". If the picture still doesn't appear, then the problem is probably at the web server.

Since you see pics OK on most sites, then the RedX problem is at the server site for the web page you are looking at... the picture on there is not any longer at the storage address it was located at when the web page was made... so it can't be found and can only show up on your computer as the infamous box with the Red X in it........

    Many times on web sites, folks post pictures that are stored at an offsite location, and so when the web page is opened very quickly the computer gets the picture from that address where it is stored but to you it looks like the picture is on the web site....... If the original poster of the picture deletes that picture on that storage site, then the address or link to it is no good, so it can't be displayed when you look at the web site......... Problem is all theirs and not yours or your computers..........
