Problems with pulsating sprinkler?

Got a brand new pulsating sprinkler. It'll turn one way on it's own, but that's it. I've adjusted the rings and the water pressure, but nothing helps. What's the key???

  1. buy a gear driven rotor ,they are more efficient anyway.
